New Riff Distilling (Newport, KY) Outside and on the left of the Party Source and Braxton Labs parking lot was a massive, seemingly impossibly tall alcohol still.  We didn’t know it was here but how could we not stop? New Riff Distilling of Newport, KY opened four years ago, but has yet to bottle any of its own whisky; the spirit is still aging.  Instead of staying closed until they had a whisky offering, New Riff makes a series of gins and vodkas and even purchased several barrels of aging Seagrams to make ends meet. This includes purchasing the remaining few barrels of the infamous OKI brand; which is distilled in Indiana, bottled in Kentucky and enjoyed in Ohio. Northern Kentucky Beerventures- Part 2

Ohio Trip – First stop, Kentucky   Since we took the 9 am out of Newark to Cincinnati on the Thursday before Memorial Day, we had lots of daylight to start our adventures.  For those of you who were unaware, Cincinnati airport is actually in Northern Kentucky, about 20 minutes south of the Ohio border. And this is O.K. by me because we’re officially in Bourbon Country.      Boone County Distillery (Independence, KY) Being equal opportunity alcoholics and in Bourbon Country, our obvious first stop had to be Boone County Distillery of Independence, KY.  While yes, it may be 20 minutes in the wrong direction but the breweries haven’t really started opening yet since it’s only noon-ish.
