virtual tour

Race Day Recap It’s 530 am and we’re headed down to the race start. The weather is a balmy 60, overcast skies and a cool mist; the water temp was around 65. Lovely day for a tri. Being that my gut was stocked with beer, the ballast should provide enough stability, and my wetsuit enough buoyancy to get me through the swim. And it did; one of my faster times actually. The bike was a 24 mile round trip, boring out and back course. Managed to crank out 18.4 mph; but it was a super flat course so that was to be expected. And I died on the run. Took the first two miles out at a 7:15, and 7:30 before I realized there was no way I was going to maintain that speed. Hobbled across the finish line with an 8:30 average. But I finished, and that’s worth a […]

South Jersey Beerventures Part 5- Race Day

Inspired by this post, we decided to up the weekend challenge and attack the Hudson Valley in a 10 hours round trip. Now our itinerary isn’t for the beginning beerventurers, and it’s probably best to take your time and enjoy these great stops! But we don’t have a lot of free time, so one day in the Hudson Valley, here we go. It was my birthday weekend and we decided somewhat spontaneously to take a trip up the Hudson Valley to hit some of the breweries we keep hearing about but haven’t gotten to visit. Equilibrium Brewery (Middletown, NY) First up was Equilibrium Brewery in Middletown, NY. Middletown is actually just about the halfway point between my house in Connecticut and Andrew’s in NY so we have both driven through many many times. Unfortunately, Equilibrium popped up just about when Andrew moved to Jersey so the trips on 84/17 were […]

Hudson Valley Beerventures

You might look at our blog, or our Instagram feed and say “wow, they hit a ton of breweries every weekend.” And while I would like to say that you’re absolutely right, we sadly do have day jobs and weekend plans outside of drinking. Like camping weekend this year, we only managed to hit one brewery in upstate NY that whole hurricane weekend! Oh, but we did squeak in a distillery on the way up with Lauren and Steezey; equal opportunity alcoholics.   Milk Street Distillery (Branchville, NJ) Milk Street Distillery is a little craft distiller on the corner of Broad & Milk Street in Branchville, NJ that made its start a little over a year ago. The distillers/owners, are genuinely friendly people who kicked their love of fine spirits up a notch by hand crafting it themselves. Their current lineup is vodka, clear rum and a rye. Being that […]

Camping Beerventures

The next of our beerventures brought us back to an old stomping ground for a friend’s birthday, which was conveniently planned as a brewery tour in NYC. LIC Beer Project (Long Island City, NY) The first stop of the day was LIC Beer Project, in you guessed it, Long Island City. Now, we are bad fake New Yorkers and so instead of relying on public transportation, which is horrible, we drove from Manhattan to LIC. We don’t recommend this strategy, but it works if you know how to drive NY. We arrived before the rest of the birthday bunch showed up, grabbed a table and headed to the bar. When we visited Queens last time, we missed LIC Beer Project so we were glad for an excuse to go back. LIC Beer Project is a spacious brewery (for New York standards) and it unfortunately does not serve flights so we […]

Long Island City Beer and Birthday Celebrations

Every now and then the stars collide and we’re able to go on a trip that gets partly expensed; this was one such occasion and we made our way to Virginia for beer work. But in all seriousness, plenty of beer work was consumed performed that totally justified our my beercation business trip. And hey, my favorite North Brewery buddy just so happens to just a short distance away from where I would be drinking working. The trip down to VA can either be one of scenery, tolls and cops or crashes, tolls and cops. So we chose scenery, tolls and cops on the way down by taking 95 to 113 through Delaware and oh hey a brewery. So on our way down to Kale’s we got to stop at two new to us Maryland breweries. Burley Oak Brewing Company (Berlin, MD) Burley Oak Brewing Company of Berlin, MD was […]

Road trip to Virginia, First Stop Maryland Breweries

Beerventurers Take on Long Island Day 2 Continuing on from our last post, we’ve got more beer to drink and places to see while on Long Island for the weekend. Specifically breweries in Patchogue, Holbrook and Riverhead. But first Andrew needs to run 10 miles in the cold because apparently that’s a good time. I’ll stick to the beer, thank you.   Sayville Running Company 10 Mile Run to the Blue Point Brewery – Race Recap Start and Finish: Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue, NY Amenities: Long sleeve tech tee’s, finishers medal (also a bottle opener), discounts at the Sayville Running Company store, Porta-potties, heated tent, food, unlimited beer during the festival, and live music. Weather: Fucking cold, but sunny. Average Pace: 7:52.  We took the first five miles out at an ~8:50 pace and at mile 2 I had to take a quick pitstop… And I’m pretty happy with […]
