Beer Enthusiasts, Not Snobs

Adventures in Homebrewing!

So we’re really good in drinking beer but what about making it? Well, we’re still working on that, but brewing your own beer really does give you an appreciation of how much actually goes into creating delicious beer.

In the past we’ve attempted a porter, IPA, cider, amber, bock, accidental sour and ciders.
We left the recipe decision to others this time and came up with a Thai lemongrass ginger wheat beer?

It almost didn’t happen but then we learned what lemongrass was and where to find it and we were back in business. (Whole Foods has it in case you’re dying for some, but the farmer’s market place was much cheaper).

So we invited some rookies and put them to work and supervised. Or we sat around drinking beer playing exploding kittens and sometimes remembered to check the boil. We had to double batch because our pots and stove isn’t big enough and we haven’t gotten around to getting a bigger setup.

The rest isn’t so exciting. We tried using a strainer to hold the bag in attempts to increase the efficiency. In reality we were trying to get a turkey fryer set up, but Walmart failed us. We added in the lemongrass and ginger and everything smelled delicious so maybe it will be okay. We finally got to use the wort chiller with the right sink attachment. And now its in its carboy letting the yeast do its thing. So in a few weeks, there should be beer!
