Is DnD the next Trivia?
Step aside Trivia, there’s a new team-based experience happening at breweries across NJ and it’s even nerdier than you are. What’s nerdier than trivia? Rolling a 20-sided dice, yelling at the 20-sided dice, and getting horrifyingly curb stopped by a Lich in Dungeons & Dragons ™.
Now I’m sure several of you just rolled your eyes at this nerd-tier level activity, and I’m very confident that at least one of you just said to themselves “Isn’t Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) just a movie?” and that’s OK! Yes, DnD is super nerdy, and yes it involves lots of make believe and creativity. However, it also involves intricate strategies, math, and a bit of luck. DnD has floated on the fringe of mainstream acceptance since its inception. But it is a fun time, especially with beers at your favorite brewery.

So what is DnD? Instead of me blundering through, just watch this 3 minute youtube video. And if that interests you, keep clicking through videos learning more about the game mechanics before spiraling down the rabbit hole and hitting a DnD Iceberg.
How do I get involved?
Now we’re at the “so-what?” part of the post. Nerds are doing nerdy things at a brewery, and you don’t know a nerd so you can’t play the nerd thing. Well, that’s where you’re wrong because the folks at Dungeons n’ Drafts are leading the charge across NJ (and Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, NYC, Delaware and Asheville) by introducing newbies to the Forgotten Realms. Every week, and brewery by brewery, Dungeon Masters (DM’s) are hosting four hour long, one-shot campaigns and they can teach you how to play.
Four hours! Holy cow that is such a long game. What a commitment! No. No it’s not, just trust me on this. Not only will four hours fly by, but you will probably hear stories of people’s campaigns lasting months – if not years. Good news for you though, the DM’s of Dungeons n’ Drafts have created their own digestible, homebrewed campaigns that will be a delight for both new and experienced DnD players.
In full disclosure, we haven’t gotten the chance to sign up for one of these campaigns yet. But it’s entirely our fault. These campaigns, and the network of DM’s under the Dungeons n’ Drafts banner span the length of New Jersey. For a measly $15, you too can be pleasantly entered by rolling both high and low numbers and watching fight scenes play out in your imagination.
